Parafilm tapes are plastic films used for sealing or protection. It has self-sealing property along with being very stretchable. Being water and oil proof, it is very commonly used in thepreservation of samples, plates, etc. They can be used on flasks, Petri plates, vials, beakers and other lab-wares. The parafilm is breathable and allows the transfer of gases like oxygen and CO2. It is also used for grafting in horticulture. It is non-reactive and disposable. Since it is composed of thermoplastic it is not autoclavable. They are available as rolls in different sizes sold under various brand names.
