PCR Strips and Caps
PCR or Polymerase chain reaction is a molecular biology technique used to amplify or makes multiple copies of the target DNA template. It involves repeated cycles of three steps - heat denaturation of dsDNA into single strands, annealing of the single DNA strands with specific primers, followed by elongation driven by the addition of nucleotides under polymerase enzyme catalysis.
PCR reactions are carried out either in 0.1 ml/0.2 ml PCR tubes, plates. The tubes need to be covered to prevent evaporative losses and contamination. For this, PCR caps, strips of caps or septum mats are available. PCr caps can be flat or domed shapes, where flat caps allow easy piercing and domed shape is ideal for efficient heat transfer. However, the choice will depend on the PCR cycler used.
