The TAE buffer is a commonly used laboratory reagent. It is used mainly for the preparation of buffers for gel electrophoresis. It contains two main components the tris acetate buffer (pH 8.3) and EDTA. Each of these components play an important role when the buffer is used while handling nucleic acids. The tris is important to keep the nucleic acids stable in solution. EDTA is a common chelator and binds divalent ions like magnesium ions and thus inactivates nucleic acid-degrading enzymes like nucleases, etc. The 50X TAE buffer is provided by Genei to serve as a ready to use buffer for electrophoresis applications. The 50X solution must be diluted to 1X using distilled water before use and the 1X buffer has the following components:

- Tris acetate 40 mM (pH 8.0)

- EDTA 1 mM
