Acetohydroxamic acid by Research Lab Fine Chem Industries is high grade reagent. Also known as Lithostat and AHA, this compound is a potent drug. It irreversibly inhibits bacterial and plant ureases. Chemically, this is a synthetic molecule derived from hydroxylamine and ethyl acetate. While the molecule is similar to urea, the urease enzymes cannot hydrolyse it which is favourable.

Acetohydroxamic acid has a wide range of applications in various sectors. As a drug, lithostat is widely usually used for urinary tract infections. This compound has been used to study the mechanism of complexation of iron (III) with acetohydroxamic acid, to study the inhibitory mechanism of lansoprazole and omeprazole on Helicobacter pyloni, applications in urease inhibition studies, for the in-situ generation of nitrosocarbonylmethane as a Diels-Alder dienophile. It has been reported that 2-Acetohydroxamic acid loaded in floating microspheres form an efficient drug delivery system for the treatment of Helicobacter pylori. Hence this reagent has great prospects in research applications.
