Acriflavin neutral has a wide range of applications in various sectors. This dye is widely used in biochemistry for fluorescently labelling high molecular weight RNA. It has been reported to inhibit mitochondriogenesis, and is also an antiseptic. In animal models, acriflavine has been demonstrated to inhibit HIF-1, which prevents blood vessels growing to supply tumors with blood and it also interferes with glucose uptake and use. It is suspected that it will be effective in fighting common cold virus, and also aid the fight against the increasingly antibiotic resistant bacteria.
