Alkaline phosphatase is provided by Genei for molecular biology applications. Phosphatases are enzymes which catalyse the removal of phosphate group from a molecule. Alkaline phosphatase is a special enzyme which catalyses the removal of phosphorus groups from the 5 ends of nucleic acids such as DNA and RNA. But the enzyme does not perform its activity by hydrolysing the phosphodiester bonds. One of the major applications of this enzyme is in the prevention of DNA recircularization during cloning. Genei provides 200 units of molecular biology grade Alkaline phosphatase, wherein, one unit is described as the amount of enzyme required for the hydrolysis of 1 mole of para-nitophenyl phosphate to yield p-nitrophenol (reaction conditions: 37C, time 1 minute, volume 1 mL). Genei performs routine tests to ensure the dephosphorylation efficiency of the enzyme.

The assay buffer (supplied at 10 X concentration) contains the following:

- 50 mM sodium chloride

- 10 mM Tris-HCl (pH 7.9)

- 10 mM Magnesium chloride

- 1 mM DTT

The storage buffer contains the following:

- 50 mM potassium chloride

- 10 mM Tris-HCl (pH 8.2)

- 1 mM magnesium chloride

- 0.1 mM zinc chloride

- 50% glycerol
