Aluminon has a wide range of applications in chemical and biological industries. This compound is used in qualitative inorganic analysis, of the presence of the aluminium ions in an aqueous solution. However, it is widely used in pigment production. Aluminon produces brilliantly coloured lake pigments with aluminium, chromium, iron, and beryllium. Furthermore, Aurintricarboxylic acid inhibits apoptosis in many cell types. It is additionally a potent inhibitor of ribonuclease and topoisomerase II by preventing the binding of the nucleic acid to the enzyme.
