Amino acetic acid or Glycine by Research Lab Fine Chem Industries is a high purity non-essential amino acid. This is the simplest form of an amino acid which has a single hydrogen atom as its side chain. It is one of the proteinogenic amino acids and is coded by the codons, GGU, GGC, GGA and GGG. Glycine is the only non-chiral proteinogenic amino acid, which is a sweet-tasting crystalline solid. Due to the single side chain with one hydrogen atom, it can fit into hydrophilic or hydrophobic environments. It is generally synthesized industrially by two methods: Strecker amino acid synthesis and the amination of chloroacetic acid with ammonia.

Glycine is versatile in its applications in laboratory research, food additives, chemical feedstock, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics etc. In experimental procedures, it is commonly used in buffer solutions, in electrophoresis and preparative chromatography. Glycine is further used to remove protein-labelling antibodies from the Western blot membranes which enables the probing of numerous proteins of interest from SDS-PAGE gel. It efficiently serves as a buffering agent in antacids, analgesics, antiperspirants, cosmetics, and toiletries. It has been used as an additive in pet food and animal feed, as well as in foods and pharmaceuticals as a sweetener/taste enhancer, or even as a component of food supplements and protein drinks.
