High grade Autoclave Indicator Tape is supplied by Cantech. They are used as visual indicators to check if the required temperature has been attained. The mechanism of action of these tapes is that they undergo a colour change after being exposed to temperatures commonly used in sterilization processes, usually 121C in a steam autoclave. The white indicator lines turn black once exposed to steam process. Generally, the indicator used in theses tape, which undergoes a colour change, is lead carbonate based, which decomposes to lead (II) oxide. As this decomposition to lead (II) oxide may occur at moderate temperatures, manufactures protect users by coating the lead carbonate layer with a resin or polymer that is degraded under steam at high temperature. They are available in a dimension of 18mm x 50mtr.

Quantity provided: 12 rolls/Box

Autoclave Indicator Tape distinguishes between items processed and unprocessed during sterilization. They are ideal for use in gravity sterilizers and pre-vacuum sterilizers. To use, one can cut small strips of the tape and apply it to the items before placing them in the autoclave. This tape resembles a masking tape, the only difference being that it is slightly more adhesive so that it can adhere to materials under the hot, moist conditions of the autoclave. Some tapes have diagonal markings containing an ink which changes colour (usually beige to black) upon heating. Nowadays, lead free tapes are also available.
