Benzil by Research Lab Fine Chem Industries is a high grade reagent. Also known as 1,2-diphenylethane-1,2-dione, this organic compound is a diketone. This reagent is available as a yellow powder which is insoluble in water and soluble in ethanol, benzene. It has a melting point of 94.0 to 96.0 C, and a boiling point of 346 to 348 C. While this reagent is stable under general conditions, it is incompatible with strong oxidizing agents. Benzil can be generated from benzoin with the help of copper(II) acetate. CAS No.: 134-81-6 Quantity Provided: 100 gm per bottle Molecular formula: C14H10O2 Molecular weight: 210.23 Assay: minimum 99 %Benzil has a variety of applications in chemical and biological sectors. This reagent is extensively used as a precursor in organic synthesis to generate various compounds. It inhibits human carboxylesterases, which are enzymes involved in the hydrolysis of carboxylesters and many clinical drugs. Benzil is majorly used in the free-radical curing of polymer networks. This compoound condenses with amines to produce diketimines ligands. It is also used to produce benzilic acid. Benzil undergoes photobleaching to improve its efficiency as a photoiniator. This reagent is suitable for industrial synthesis of products and research applications.
