Calcium chloride anhydrous is manufactured by Securex Lab Sciences. The compound is inorganic in nature. It is highly water soluble and at room temperature, exists as a crystalline solid. It is commonly used as a desiccant. In industry, calcium chloride is used to prevent the formation of ice crystals. In construction companies, calcium chloride is used in the surfacing of roads to prevent the dust from rising. In swimming pools, calcium chloride is added to increase the hardness of water and hence, reduce erosion of the concrete in the base of the pool. It is also a permitted food additive. It is a firming agent for canned foods. In medicine, calcium chloride is used to soothe internal burns. In general biological laboratories calcium chloride is popularly used for cell transformation studies to permeabilize the cell membrane and allow easy uptake of foreign DNA.
