Carborundum powder by Research Lab Fine Chem Industries is a high grade reagent. Also known as silver carbide, this is a semiconductor containing silicon and carbon. The reagent is available as a bluish-black crystalline powder which is soluble in molten sodium hydroxide. It has a melting point at 2,830 C. Carborundum powder can be manufactured by combining silica sand and carbon in an Acheson graphite electric resistance furnace at a high temperature, between 1,600 C and 2,500 C. While it is stable under general conditions, this reagent is incompatible with strong oxidizing agents. CAS No.: 409-21-2 Quantity Provided: 500 gm per bottle Molecular formula: CSi Molecular weight: 40.10 16/240 gritCarborundum powder has a variety of applications in chemical and biological sectors. This reagent finds applications in the organic synthesis of various derivatives. Carborundum powder is majorly used in abrasives and cutting tools of processes such as grinding, honing, water-jet cutting and sandblasting. It is additionally used for high performance "ceramic" brake discs. Carborundum is a semiconductor preferred for fast, high-temperature and/or high-voltage devices. It furthermore acts as a fuel in a basic oxygen furnace for making steel. This reagent is suitable for industrial synthesis of products and research applications.
