Cupric chloride dihydrate is a light brown solid and it naturally occurs as minerals like tolbachite and eriochalcite. Cupric chloride is used as a catalyst. The compound, refluxed in acetonitrile, is used to chemo selectively hydrolyse semi carbazones to carbonyl compounds. Apart from that, cupric chloride can be used in fine chemicals, pharmaceutical industries and in the manufacture of dyes. It is also used in injections and is an additive for total parenteral nutrition. Further, cupric chloride dihydrate is used in chemicals manufacture, printing, as a fungicide and as a wood preservative.
