D-Alanine by Research Lab Fine Chem Industries is a high grade reagent. Also known as 2-Aminopropanoic acid, this amino acid contains an -amino group, an -carboxylic acid group, and a side chain methyl group, which makes it a non-polar, aliphatic amino acid. This reagent is available as white powder which is soluble in water. It has a melting point of 258 C at which it sublimes. Through biosynthesis, it is generated from pyruvate and branched chain amino acids such as valine, leucine, and isoleucine, however it can also be produced in a two-step process of the reductive amination of pyruvate.

D-Alanine has a wide range of applications in biological and chemical industries. It undergoes a transamination reaction with pyruvate to form malonate-semialdehyde and L-alanine. This product is further converted by malonate-semialdehyde dehydrogenase into malonate, which is used to generate malonyl-CoA and run the fatty acid biosynthesis. Additionally, beta-alanine can be diverted into the biosynthesis of Pantothenate and Coenzyme A. It has been reported that -alanine supplements can increase exercise performance in athletes. The deamination of an alanine molecule yields a stable alkyl free radical, whose property is used in dosimetric measurements in radiotherapy.
