DEPC-treated Water by MP Biomedicals is high purity water. DEPC or Diethyl pyrocarbonate is a reagent used to laboratories to inactivate RNase enzymes in water which is to be used in experimental procedures. This process is carried out by treating water with 0.1% v/v DEPC for at least 2 hours at 37 C, followed by autoclaving it for at least 15 minutes to inactivate any traces of DEPC. However, DEPC is unstable in water and is susceptible to hydrolysis, yielding carbon dioxide and ethanol, especially in the presence of a nucleophile. This is why it cannot be used Tris or HEPES buffers, however it can be used with phosphate-buffered saline or MOPS. 7732-18-5 Quantity Provided: 200 ml per bottle RNase-free water DEPC-treated water is used in handling of RNA in the laboratory to reduce the risk of RNA being degraded by RNases as this water is considered RNase-free. This water is hence useful in various applications involving nucleic acid electrophoresis, nucleic acid sequencing, nucleic acid labelling, protein electrophoresis and protein labelling. It is also used for elution of DNA and RNA from silica matrices. Furthermore, it has been reported that DEPC can also be used for probing the structure of double-stranded DNA.
