- PRODUCT DETAILS
DL-Dithiothreitol (DTT) by MP Biomedicals is a high grade reagent. This is a small-molecule redox reagent also known as Cleland's reagent. This reagent is available as a white powder which is soluble in water. It has a melting point of 42 to 43 C and a boiling point at 125 to 130 C. The reagent is commonly used in its racemic form, as both enantiomers are reactive. CAS Number: 3483-12-3 Quantity provided: 5 gm per bottle Chemical formula: C4H10O2S2 Molecular weight: 154.25 DL-Dithiothreitol has a wide range of applications in biological and chemical industries. DTT is commonly used as a reducing or "deprotecting" agent for thiolated DNA. DTT is effective in sample buffers for reducing protein disulfide bonds prior to SDS-PAGE. DTT can also be used for reducing the disulfide bridge of the cross-linker N,N-bis(acryloyl)cystamine to break apart the matrix of a polyacrylamide gel. It is less pungent and is less toxic than 2-mercaptoethanol. It has been used as one of the reactants in the reduction and alkylation of s1-Casein, the major allergen of cows milk. It has also been verified as a reducing agent to test the specificity of the reaction of N-Ethylmaleimide with sulfhydryl groups. These reagents are suitable for industrial and research applications.
