00827 00025 is referred as IODINE under Research Lab Fine Chem Industries catalogue.00827 00025 IODINE is a halogen and has a atomic number of 53. It is a purple colored solid and sublimes on heating. It is a very important element in the synthesis of thyroid hormone. Iodine and its derivatives are used as dyes, catalysts, supplements, stabilizers in chemical, pharmaceuticals and photography industries. Iodide and iodate ions are used for the quantitative volumetric analysis. It is also used in smog inhibition, cloud seeding and in analytical chemistry. Iodine deficiency can lead to goiter and hypothyroidism which may cause developmental and health problems. Elemental iodine may be used to treat iodine deficiency. Solution of potassium iodide is used to treat acute thyrotoxicosis. Too much of iodine can also be harmful and cause thyroiditis, thyroid papillary cancer and cause burning of mouth, throat, stomach and can also lead to coma.
