This nutrient-dense medium is suitable for promoting the growth of pure cultures of recombinant strains. Strains originating from Escherichia coli K12 that lack the ability to synthesize Vitamin B are genetically modified through specific mutations to generate auxotrophic strains that cannot grow on nutritionally deficient media. Tryptone supplies the medium with peptides and peptones, while yeast extract serves as a source of the Vitamin B complex. Sodium chloride is also included to support membrane transport and maintain the medium's osmotic balance.
