M-TGE with TTC indicator broth is a type of selective and differential culture medium used for the isolation and detection of coliform bacteria, particularly E. coli, from water and food samples.M-TGE stands for modified trypticase soy broth with added sodium taurocholate and lactose. It contains nutrients that support the growth of coliform bacteria while inhibiting the growth of other microorganisms. Sodium taurocholate is a bile salt that inhibits the growth of non-enteric bacteria, while lactose serves as the carbohydrate source for the coliform bacteria.TTC is added to the medium as an indicator of bacterial growth. When the coliform bacteria metabolize lactose and produce acid, the pH of the medium decreases, causing the TTC to be reduced and producing a red colour.
