Motility Indole lysine Iron Agar is supplied by TM media. MIL Medium distinguishes Enterobacteriaceae by examining their ability to move, break down lysine through decarboxylation and deamination, and produce indole. Motility Indole lysine Iron Agar is a culture medium that allows four distinct biochemical reactions to distinguish Enterobacteriaceae based on their motility, ability to produce indole, and lysine decarboxylation and deamination. When combined with TSI and Urea Agar, up to nine reactions can be observed, which greatly enhances the accuracy of the initial identification of these bacteria. Yeast extract provides the essential vitamins and cofactors needed for growth. Lysine hydrochloride is included as a substrate to determine the presence of lysine decarboxylase or lysine deaminase activity. Dextrose serves as an energy source.
