Niacin by MP Biomedicals is a high grade reagent. Also known as nicotinic acid, this organic compound together with nicotinamide, makes up the group known as vitamin B3 complex. This reagent is available as a white powder which is sparingly soluble in water, freely soluble in boiling water, boiling alcohol, solutions of alkali hydroxide and carbonates, however it is practically insoluble in ether. Niacin belongs to the group of the pyridinecarboxylic acids. The liver can synthesize this compound from the essential amino acid tryptophan.
