TM Media supplies R2A Broth. This medium is used for cultivating heterotrophic bacteria from potable water. R-2A Broth is useful for recovering bacteria from treated water under varying incubation conditions. Many bacteria found in natural waters grow best on media with lower nutrient levels, as they are adapted to limited nutrients and ambient temperatures. R2A Broth comprises casein acid hydrolysate, yeast extract, and protease peptone, which provide the necessary growth factors for bacterial metabolism. Dextrose is used as the primary source of energy, while starch works to neutralize any toxic metabolites that may be present. The medium is buffered with phosphate, and additional nutrients are supplied by sodium pyruvate. Magnesium sulphate is included as a source of ions.
