RNase A is an endoribonuclease which catalyses the removal of 5-ribose group from DNA and RNA and removal of the 3-ribose from a neighbouring pyrimidine nucleotide. The RNase A from Genei is isolated from bovine pancreas. The product is given as a vial containing the lyophilized powder and the user may dissolve the powder in sodium chloride at a concentration of 5 mg/mL. This should yield a colourless solution. One unit of the enzyme is defined as the amount of enzyme required to increase the absorbance (A260 nm) by 0.001/minute (reaction conditions - 25C, pH 5.0).
