Sabouraud Chloramphenicol Agar is supplied by TM Media. The Sabouraud Chloramphenicol Agar is a recommended medium for cultivating yeasts and moulds. Originally described by Sabouraud for fungi cultivation, it is especially useful for fungi related to skin infections. The medium is commonly paired with antibiotics, like Chloramphenicol, to isolate pathogenic fungi from samples that contain a high number of fungi or bacteria. The medium contains nitrogenous compounds from casein enzymic hydrolysate and peptic digest of animal tissue and the energy source from dextrose. With the inhibition of a broad range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria by Chloramphenicol, the medium becomes selective for fungi. The low pH level helps promote fungal growth while restraining bacterial contamination in clinical specimens.
