Medium C, also known as Sabouraud Chloramphenicol Agar, is recommended for growing yeasts and molds. This medium is especially useful for fungi associated with skin infections. It is often used in conjunction with antibiotics, like Chloramphenicol, to isolate pathogenic fungi from samples containing high levels of fungi or bacteria. The growth nutrients provided by Tryptone and peptone include nitrogenous and carbonaceous compounds, long-chain amino acids, and other essential nutrients. Dextrose serves as an energy source, while Chloramphenicol selectively inhibits a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, making the medium highly selective for fungi.
