Sabouraud Dextrose Broth (USP/EP/JP/BP/IP) is supplied by TM Media. Sabouraud Dextrose Broth is a modified version of the original formulation developed by Sabouraud for the cultivation of fungi, especially those related to skin infections. Carlier's modification of the medium is used for qualitative procedures to culture both pathogenic and non-pathogenic fungi, particularly those causing dermatophyte infections. Sabouraud Dextrose Broth is recommended in the Bacteriological Analytical Manual for testing cosmetics. A combination of peptic digest of animal tissue and pancreatic digest of casein in equal amounts provides nitrogenous compounds, carbon, and other nutrients required for growth. Dextrose is used as a source of carbohydrates. The medium's low pH of about 5.6 promotes the growth of fungi.
