Salmonella Shigella Agar Plate (SS Agar Plate) is supplied by TM Media. This medium is suggested for isolating Salmonella and certain Shigella species from pathological specimens, suspected foodstuffs, and other sources. SS Agar medium is an ideal differential and selective medium for isolating Salmonella and Shigella species from pathological specimens and suspected foodstuffs, as well as for performing microbial limit tests. Gram-positive bacteria are inhibited in this moderately selective medium due to the presence of bile salts, brilliant green, and sodium citrate. Peptone and HM peptone B provide nitrogen and carbon sources, long-chain amino acids, vitamins, and other essential growth nutrients. Lactose serves as the fermentable carbohydrate, while brilliant green, bile salts, and thiosulphate selectively inhibit gram-positive and coliform organisms.
