Zinc sulphate heptahydate by MP Biomedicals is a high grade reagent. This inorganic compound is a salt of zinc and sulphate. The reagent is available as white crystals, to crystalline powder which is soluble in water. It is naturally found as the mineral, goslarite, formed from the oxidation of sphalerite. Zinc sulphate can be generated by treating any zinc-containing material (metal, minerals, oxides) with sulphuric acid. It is an eye irritant, and excess ingestion lead to stomach distress, hence must be handled with care.

- Molecular Weight: 287.5
- Soluble in water
Zinc sulphate heptahydrate is widely used in chemical and biological sectors. It is used in various manufacturing processes, such as calico printing, wood preservation, the production of lithopone, as well as bleaching of paper. It is used in research as, Abscisic acid transduction cascade in Arabidopsis thaliana has used this salt as an anion channel blocker. Several protocols employ zinc sulphate for protein precipitation and analysis by LC/MS. A procedure has also been reported on the use of zinc sulphate to remove hemoglobin from mammalian tissue cytosol for subsequent study of lipoxygenase activity from biological samples.
