Transport Swabs W/ Dey-Engley Neutralizing Agar (D/E Agar Disinfectant Testing) is supplied by TM Media. Dey-Engley Neutralizing Agar has the ability to neutralize a wide range of antiseptics and disinfectants, including but not limited to quaternary ammonium compounds, phenolic, iodine and chlorine preparations, mercurial, formaldehyde and glutaraldehyde. Tryptone is added to provide essential nutrients such as nitrogen and carbon source, long-chain amino acids, and vitamins. Dextrose is included as an energy source, while yeast extract acts as a rich source of vitamin B-complex. This formulation contains neutralizing substances that counteract the effects of almost all active products used as antiseptics and disinfectants. Sodium bisulfite can neutralize aldehydes, sodium thioglycollate can neutralize mercurial, and sodium thiosulfate can neutralize iodine and chlorine. Lecithin can neutralize quaternary ammonium compounds, while polysorbate 80, a non-ionic surface-active agent, can neutralize substituted phenolics.
