Cresol Red, or o-cresolsulfonephthalein, is a dye which is used to stain DNA during agarose gel electrophoresis. It is incorporated as part of PCR reactions as it does not inhibit Taq polymerase and the product can be directly loaded onto agarose gels. It has a molecular weight corresponding to DNA of 125 bp and hence can be used to track the progression of the gel run. The 6X Cresol-Red DNA Loading Dye from Genei is a Cresol Red sodium salt which has been dissolved in a solution containing the Tris buffer and glycerol. This serves as a complete loading dye for gel electrophoresis. The product is provided in a 6X concentration and can be diluted to a 1X working solution before use. The proportions are as follows: 1/6th of the loading dye and 5/6th of DNA. The mixture must be mixed properly before loading to ensure even distribution.
