VoxEL HIV 1 & 2 (Ag-Ab) ELISA (4.0) is a qualitative enzyme immunoassay for detection of antibodies to HIV-1, HIV-2 & HIV- p24 antigen in serum or plasma. Antigen can generally be detected during both acute phase and the symptomatic phase of AIDS. The antibodies to HIV-1 and/or HIV-2 can be detected throughout virtually the whole infection period, starting at or shortly after the acute phase and lasting till the end stage of AIDS. The human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is a lentivirus belongs to subgroup of retrovirus that causes HIV infection, acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), AIDS related complex (ARC), and pre-AIDS. HIV Viruses type 1(HIV1) & type 2 (HIV2) are etiological agents of the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). AIDS is a condition in humans which leads to progressive failure of the immune system and allows life-threatening opportunistic infections and cancers to thrive. HIV infects vital cells in the human immune system such as helper T cells (specifically CD4+ T cells), macrophages, & dendritic cells. The most possible modes of HIV transmission are unsafe sexual contact, exposure to contaminated blood (including sharing contaminated needle and syringe) or certain blood products during blood transfusion or from an infected mother to her child during the prenatal period. VoxEL HIV 1 & 2 Ag/Ab ELISA Test is intended for screening of blood donors or other individuals at risk for HIV-1 and / or HIV-2 infection and for clinical diagnostic testing. VoxEL HIV 1 & 2 Ag/Ab ELISA test results interpretation must be done by reconfirming test with other confirmatory test. The test result should be co related to clinical findings by health care professionals.
