These oils contain approximately 1.3% essential oils, comprising of 45 % eucalyptol, 12 % other terpenes, 8 - 12 % terpinyl acetate, 3 4 % sesquiterpenes, 3 % methyleugenol. It additionally contains some - and -pinenes, phellandrene, linalool, geraniol, and terpineol, and lauric acid. The oil can be extracted via steam distillation procedure. Bay oil has a variety of applications in chemical and biological sectors. Bay leaves are extensively used in culinary applications in Indian and Pakistani cuisines. They are also used as flavouring agents in the food industry and their fragrance is applied in many health care products. They are also applied to repel meal moths, flies, cockroaches, mice and silverfish. The leaves have been studied to inhibit the growth of molds. Bay oil is also associated with various health benefits via consumption of the product.
