Casein Acid Hydrolysate (Casamino Acid) is a product by Micromaster. Chemically, it is a hydrochloric acid hydrolysate of casein. It is used in microbiology for the preparation of culture media. In media, casein acts as an amino nitrogen source. Further, the hydrochloric acid in the medium hydrolysis the protein into free amino acids and some peptide fragments. The process also destroys traces of tryptophan and vitamins in the medium. Primarily, it is a part of the Mueller Hinton Agar. The microorganisms which can be grown in this medium include Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus.
