High grade C.L.E.D Agar with BTB (Bromothymol Blue) indicator is supplied by Micromaster. It is available in the form of a green coloured homogenous free flowing powder which has a pH in the range of 7.1 to 7.5. It is advisable to store this product between 15-25C.

CLED (Cystine- Lactose- Electrolyte-Deficient) agar with BTB is a non-selective solid medium for the cultivation of pathogens from urine specimens. It is based on the principle of lactose fermentation, lowering the pH of the medium with acid production. Beef extract, Casein peptone and Gelatin peptone provide nitrogen, vitamins, minerals and amino acids essential for growth; Lactose is the fermentable carbohydrate providing carbon and energy; L-Cystine is added as a growth supplement for cystine-dependent coliforms. Differentiation of lactose-fermenters and lactose non-fermenters is achieved using bromothymol blue and Andrades indicator as pH indicators. Bacteriological Agar is the solidifying agent. Bromothymol blue is the indicator used in this agar and it changes to yellow in case of acid production during fermentation of lactose or to deep blue in case of alkalinisation.
