Enterobacteria Enrichment Broth Mossel, is a product by Micromaster. The broth is routinely used as a selective enrichment media for Enterobacteriaceae, which is comprised of Salmonella, Shigella and some other pathogens which enter through contaminated water. The broth is composed of pancreatic digests of gelatin and glucose monohydrate. These ingredients provide nitrogen, vitamins and amino acids. To prevent the growth of gram-positive bacterial species, agents such as brilliant green and ox bile are added. Buffers such as phosphates are added, which also neutralizes acids which are made by lactose fermenters. The dehydrated powder of the media is dissolved in water. This medium must not be autoclaved.
