Ferric citrate by Research Lab Fine Chem Industries is a high grade reagent. Also known as Iron(III) citrate, this is a citrate salt of iron. The reagent is available as a dark orange-ish powder which is slightly soluble in water. Ferric citrate can be obtained by adding iron(III) sulphate tetrahydrate to a solution of citric acid and sodium hydroxide. While it is stable under general conditions, this reagent is incompatible with strong oxidizing agents. CAS No. 2338-05-8 Quantity Provided: 500 gm per bottle Molecular formula: C6H5FeO7H2O Molecular weight: 262.96 Assay: 18 - 20 %Ferric citrate has a variety of applications in chemical and biological sectors. This reagent finds applications in the organic synthesis of various derivatives. Ferric citrate supplies a source of iron in cell culture applications and is often incorporated in microbiological media. It additionally plays an important role in the metabolism of iron where citrate anions are found to be released by plant roots to extract iron from the soil. This reagent is suitable for the industrial synthesis of products and research applications.
