Lactophenol Picric Acid is a biological staining solution mainly used to stain fungi species. It is composed of phenols, lactic acid, glycerol and picric acid. The stain gives a yellowish coloration to the hyphae of the fungi. It can also be used for wet mounting of fungi. The lactic acid component preserves the fungal structure and the phenol component acts as a disinfectant. It gives clear stained hyphae and spores under microscope without any interference by any particles. It should be stored below 30C in tightly closed container away from light.
