Lactophenol is a solution of phenol and lactic acid in glycerol and water. It is an amber colored solution used for In-Vitro diagnostics and parasitology as a biological stain. It is generally used for staining and mounting of fungi. The phenol component acts as a disinfectant and the lactic acid preserves the fungal structures.
