It is an improved version of the m-Yeast and Fungi Broth, with the addition of bromocresol green for aiding in identification by being absorbed into fungal colonies. Compared to other media used for the isolation of fungi and yeast, m-Green Yeast and Fungi Broth is relatively complex in their formula and rich in nutrients, providing a favourable environment for excellent fungal growth. Fungi have been detected in potable water as well as on the inner surface of distribution system pipes. They can survive water treatment or enter the system after treatment and remain viable.
