Methyl red indicator is a high-grade reagent supplied by Research Lab Fine Chem Industries. Acid Red 2, 2-(4-Dimethylaminophenylazo)benzoic acid, 4-Dimethylaminoazobenzene-2'carboxylic acid and 2-(N,N-dimethyl-4-aminophenyl) azobenzenecarboxylic acid are some of the other chemical names used for this reagent. It is an azo dye which is used as an acid base indicator for a wide range of pH measurement. Methyl red can be prepared by the diazotization of anthranilic acid, followed by reaction with dimethylaniline. It is available in the form of dark violet powder. Methyl red has a melting point around 179-182C. CAS No. 493-52-7 Quantity provided: 500 gm/bottle Molecular formula: C15H15N3O2 Molecular weight: 269.31 g/mol Assay: Minimum This indicator imparts red colour to solutions below a pH of 4.4 and yellow colour to solution which have a pH above 6.2. Methyl red indicator is used extensively for various experiments in chemistry, biology and microbiology labs. pH indicators are widely used in titrations to determine the extent of a chemical reaction. Or they may be used in any situations requiring the rough estimate of pH range of any solution. Methyl red is also used in IMVic test to detect the acid production from glucose fermentation. It is also used in the saliva sampling method. Methyl red is an ideal candidate for intrageneric differentiation of Enterobacteriaceae.
