It contains a chaotropic agent and surfactant, which disrupt the hydrogen bonds and intramolecular interactions of macromolecules. This leads to the solubilization of proteins and the disintegration of cellular structures of microorganisms. Additionally, the DNase and RNase enzymes are denatured by this medium. Molecular Transport Medium sequesters divalent cations that inactivate nuclease enzymes and protect released nucleic acids, while the buffering system serves to safeguard them. Molecular Transport Medium (Viral Lysis Transport Medium) is designed to maintain the integrity of nucleic acids for molecular testing. Furthermore, the lysing property of this medium causes the micro-organisms to lyse and become non-infectious, offering protection to users. The micro-organisms are inactivated and lysed within 30 minutes of being introduced to the medium.
