N-Methyl-1,2-phenylenediamine is a high-grade reagent supplied by Research Lab Fine Chem Industries. Few other chemical names used to denote this reagent include, N1-methylbenzene-1,2-diamine, N-Methyl-o-phenylenediamine and 1,2-Benzenediamine, N-methyl-. It is available in the form of a yellow coloured liquid which has a boiling point in the range of 123-124C and a melting point in the range of 22C. It is stable as long it is stored as per the recommended storage conditions. Burning or prolonged exposure to heat or flammable sources may produce hazardous decomposition products like carbon oxides and nitrogen oxides. N-Methyl-1,2-phenylenediamine is incompatible with strong oxidising agents. It is harmful if inhaled, ingested or absorbed through the skin. CAS No. 4760-34-3 Quantity provided: 100 gm/bottle Molecular formula: C7H10N2 Molecular weight: 122.171 g/mol Assay: Minimum 97%o-Phenylenediamine condenses with ketones and aldehydes to give rise to a variety of useful products. Reactions with carboxylic acids and their derivatives afford benzimidazoles. Quinoxalinedione can be prepared by condensation of o-phenylenediamine with dimethyl oxalate. Condensation with xanthate esters affords mercaptoimidazoles, which are used as antioxidants in rubber products. Treatment with nitrous acid gives benzotriazole, a corrosion inhibitor. Condensation of substituted o-phenylenediamine with various diketones is used in the preparation of a variety of pharmaceuticals.
