N-Methyl-2-pyrrolidone is a high-grade reagent supplied by Research Lab Fine Chem Industries. Few other chemical names used to denote this reagent include, 1-Methyl-2-pyrrolidinone, N-Methylpyrrolidone, 1-methylpyrrolidin-2-one and 1-Methyl-2-pyrrolidone. N-Methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP) is an organic compound consisting of a 5-membered lactam. It is available in the form of colourless to light yellow liquid with an amine like odour. N-Methyl-2-pyrrolidone has a boiling point of 202C, a melting point of -24C and is soluble in water, lower alcohols, ketones, ethyl acetate, chloroform and benzene. It is stable as long it is stored as per the recommended storage conditions. Being hygroscopic in nature, it must be stored and preserved accordingly.
