B-lactamase is an enzyme that degrades the B-lactam ring present in specific antibiotics, including penicillins and cephalosporins, causing them to lose their efficacy. B-lactamase 1 and B-lactamase II are two types of this enzyme that exhibit distinct preferences for different B-lactam antibiotics. By incorporating 5IU of B-lactamase II and 50IU of B-lactamase 1 per 100 mL of the SCDA medium, the growth of bacteria capable of producing these enzymes can be selectively supported.
