It has a melting point of 81 to 83 C, and a boiling point of 285 C. Naturally, vanillin is extracted from the seed pods of Vanilla planifolia, however it can also be synthesized. While it is stable under general conditions, this reagent is incompatible with strong oxidizing agents.
