CHOLESTEROL -L KIT -(CHOD - PAP Method) , is supplied by BHAT BIO-TECH. It is used for in vitro determination of total cholesterol content in serum, plasma, tissue, cells and other samples. Cholesterol is the main lipid found in blood, bile and brain tissues. It is often associated with arteriosclerotic vascular diseases. The liver metabolizes the cholesterol and it is transported in the blood stream by lipoproteins. Increased levels are found in hypercholesterolaemia, hyperlipidaemia, hypothyroidism, uncontrolled diabetes, nephrotic syndrome and cirrhosis. Decreased levels are found in malabsorption, malnutrition, hyperthyroidism, anemias and liver diseases. Cholesterol kit uses CHOD / PAP method to determine cholesterol activity in serum or plasma. The enzyme cholesterol esterase is used to hydrolyze the cholesterol esters present in the serum to free cholesterol and free fatty acids. The enzyme cholesterol oxidase in the presence of oxygen to oxidizes the cholesterol to cholest-4- en-3one and hydrogen peroxide. Hydrogen peroxide oxidizes phenol and 4-aminoantipyrine to produce red color that can be measured spectrophotometrically. Cholesterol reagent and standard are stable at 2-8 C until the expiry date indicated on the label.
