Cobalt chloride hexahydrate by MP Biomedicals is a high grade reagent. This compound is an inorganic salt of cobalt and chlorine. This reagent is available as a dark maroon crystalline powder which is soluble in water. It has a melting point at 86 C and can be stored at room temperature. Concentrated aqueous solutions of the salt are red at room temperature but become blue at higher temperatures. Cobalt chloride hexahydrate is deliquescent in nature. This reagent is prepared from reacting cobalt(II) hydroxide or cobalt(II) carbonate and hydrochloric acid. CAS No. 7791-13-1 Quantity Provided: 100 gm per pack Molecular Formula: CoCl26H2O Molecular Weight: 237.93 Soluble in water Cobalt chloride hexahydrate is widely used in chemical and biological sectors. It is widely used as an indicator for water in desiccants. Specialized applications of cobalt chloride include its role in organic synthesis and electroplating objects with cobalt metal. Cobalt chloride as an inducer of HIF-1 production, has been used to study the apoptotic effects in HepG2 cells. It is also reported as a stabilizer for reconstitution of the radiopharmaceutical technetium-99m exametazime. It has further been used in studies to examine heat shock protein expression of inflamed skin. These reagents may be used in the synthesis of various compounds in industrial processes, and are suitable for research.
