Magnesium sulphate heptahydrate by MP Biomedicals is a high grade reagent. Also known as epsonite or Epson salt, this compound is an inorganic salt. It is available as a white crystalline powder which is soluble in water and slightly soluble in alcohol. The hydrate salt is often preferred when preparing solutions. The heptahydrate form can be synthesized by neutralizing sulphuric acid with magnesium carbonate or oxide, but it is usually obtained directly from natural sources. It absorbs water from the air and converts to hexahydrate with the loss of one water molecule and a switch to monoclinic structure. CAS No. 10034-99-8 Quantity Provided: 500 gm per pack Molecular Formula: MgSO4.7H2O Molecular Weight: 246.5 Soluble in water Magnesium sulphate heptahydrate is widely used in chemical and biological sectors. Magnesium sulphate is a mineral required in the pharmaceutical preparation of magnesium, commonly known as Epsom salt. Magnesium Sulphate Heptahydrate is employed in explosives, matches, mineral water, and tanning leather, in weighing cotton and silk, increasing the bleaching action of chlorinated lime etc. It is the component of various culture media such as Hanks balanced salt solution, plant cell-culture media etc. It is also used in the preparation of spheroplasts from E. coli K38. These reagents may be used in the synthesis of various compounds in industrial processes, and are suitable for research.
