This test is based on a lateral flow chromatographic immunoassay.

It detects and differentiates both IgG and IgM antibody.

The test has a conjugate pad containing the HEV antigens conjugated with colloidal gold and rabbit IgG-gold conjugates.

It also has a nitrocellulose membrane strip containing a test line and a control line (C line).

The T line is pre-coated with monoclonal anti-human IgM antibody, and the C line is pre-coated with goat anti-rabbit IgG antibody.

The sample is dispensed into a sample well. It migrates due to capillary action.

In case of the presence of the antibody IgM, a burgundy colour appears on the T line, indicating a positive test result,

It also contains an internal control C line which must develop a burgundy colour.
