This test is based on a lateral flow chromatographic immunoassay.

The test has a conjugate pad containing the recombinant Treponema pallidum specific antigens conjugated with colloidal gold and Mouse IgG.

It also has a nitrocellulose membrane strip, two test lines (T lines) and a control line (C line).

The T line is pre-coated with recombinant Treponema pallidum specific antigens. The C line is coated with goat anti-mouse IgG .

The sample is dispensed into a sample well. It migrates due to capillary action.

In case of the presence of the antibody, a burgundy colour appears on the T line, indicating a positive test result.

It also contains an internal control C line which must develop a burgundy colour.
